Senioritis

May 19, 2016

Since freshmen year, parents and/or family members have asked you, “What do you plan on doing after high school?” Usually your thoughts were , “Damn, I have a whole 4 years, chill I’m still young,” but in the end you say, “Still thinking about it, but most-likely college”. You only say this because that is what everyone expects, but  truthfully you don’t know, or care. Then the beginning of senior year arrives  and everyone expects more, but  their warnings still never really affect you. Because in truth, thinking about it is thinking of an oncoming apocalyptic life changing situation. This is where life really hurts  the weak.

July 30th, 2012, was the first day of the graduating class of 2016. A fellow student of that class, Robert Arima, remembers freshman year quite well because he states that, “The only memory I have from freshmen year was in Algebra 1, I remember that class being funny as hell and made my freshmen year fun.” Now, four  years later, Robert Arima says , “Senior year for me was pretty fun and exciting, I had many fun experiences with my friends.” Even in classes, Robert says, “I have a lot of good memories from senior year, one was when I moved from Special Ed Economics/Psychology to regular Ed Economics/Psychology.”

Sammi Babbs is a 15 year old Kalani High School student is just a freshman. Sammi just recently moved to Hawai’i. So, she explains that, “In the beginning of my freshman year I went to school in Missouri and it was pretty enjoyable; I made a lot of new friends”. Coming from Missouri she states her good and bad memories. “A good memory was when I made new friends and met my best friend Taylor, In Missouri. A bad memory was when I had to leave my friends a month away from the end of the school year and move across the ocean.” She had some struggles during her first year, one of them being, “Moving to a new school and having to meet a bunch of new people.” Since she is not yet a senior, she asked, “How do seniors survive all the projects and work?”  Still, as a freshmen she plans to “go to college.” Sammi wants to take photography class because she really likes to take a lot of pictures especially of nature. It’s her passion.

What do the senior’s plan to do after high school? Robert states, “My main plans for after high school is work, KCC, then transferring to UH”. What is their biggest worries? Robert states, “My biggest worries is losing contact with the friends I have made during school while in college.”

Seniors, nothing you can do is ever gonna prepare you for life…. However, there is still hope, lessons, and guidance you have to look forward to. The freshmen still have a couple more years until they sit in your seat and ponder life and  feel the impending apocalypse.

“Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s ’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart, and intuition.”
