May Day
May 25, 2016
May Day was definitely not your typical lei day here at Kalani. Many of us are used to a “mostly” Hawaiian based May Day program and some of us probably don’t even know what May Day is. However, in this day and age, May Day has become very diverse to other cultures.
The Polynesian club showed an array of Polynesian cultures, some including, Samoan, Tahitian, and Hawaiian. Every dance was truly entertaining and the crowd seemed to be enjoying the humor that came with it. The dancers, worked very hard, that they even earned a few tips.
All the dancers did an amazing job and looked stunning. It was nice to see what people from other Polynesian cultures wear and how they dance. Every single culture had their own unique dancing style that differed from the others. The students from the Polynesian club worked really hard for this and I’d say that all payed off.
Kalani’s May Day 2016 program was nothing less than entertaining and enjoyable. Since then, I’ve heard only good reviews coming from all sorts of students. Some of our mainland students really enjoyed this as well, because it was, “really different and eye opening.” Good job to all those who helped and contributed to this year’s May Day program.
