Kalani High School’s very own science and engineering teacher, Mr. Silver, won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching this month. He received this honor in Washington D.C. with other Hawaii recipients. This is a very prestigious award, awarded to exemplary teachers. The winners are chosen by an illustrious panel of scientists mathematicians, and other educators. Mr. Silver was chosen with a group of five amazing other teachers from Hawaii. And to add on to how incredible this achievement was Mr. Silver was also recommended by one of the first teachers to ever win this award in 1983 when it was established by Congress for the president to bestow these awards. When I went to talk to Mr. Silver he said this about winning the award, “It was awesome I was really happy, to be selected out of a few really great and awesome teachers was really exciting and fulfilling.” Everyone is very proud of Mr. Silver for earning this well deserved award.  Congratulations Mr. Silver.
