Every day dozens of Kalani students walk to Kahala Mall after school to hang out. Originally built in 1954 as Waialae Shopping Center, it remains one of the largest malls in Hawaii, and hosts a wide variety of people, from cruising locals to swarms of tourists. “I go to the mall after school because it makes me relaxed,” one student said. “I can chill with my friends somewhere without education.”
