News writing is an elective that helps you expand your writing prowess, conduct interviews, and take “newsy” pictures. In class, you spend your time either learning about how to improve your writing or writing your article.

The class has its ups and downs.

“It’s fun to be in the class but it can get a little boring if you already know one of the things that you’re learning about,” News writing student Kaden Arias said.

News writing is really helpful for those who want to improve their writing skills and learn the “news” style of writing. In class, you read and analyze the local newspaper and award-winning articles that the teacher picks out herself. This allows you to read and learn different styles of writing so that you can find and improve your own writing style.

“It’s a fun class but reading articles almost every class can get a little boring,” news writing student Vincent Wang said.

Students also write articles on their own and these get posted on the Kalani news writing website, Ka Leo O Kalani.

“Having to interview strangers for your articles makes you step out of your comfort zone,” Wang added.
