Are Crocs the new trend?
September 24, 2018
At Kalani High School every corner you turn, someone is wearing a pair of Crocs.
Crocs are rubber-covered footwear made out of a proprietary foam resin called Croslite.
The majority of students at Kalani High School who own a pair of Crocs participate in sports.
Serena Wong, a senior at Kalani, participates in basketball, softball, and track. She says she was there when the trend started, around the beginning of the 2017 school year. She said her and her teammates got them because they wanted to match.
“As more people started to wear Crocs, it became more normal,” Wong said. “Crocs were very popular in elementary school, but it’s now making a comeback.”
Freshman Keely Kobayashi is a member of the volleyball team. She has a pair of her own.
“It’s comfortable, and it’s cute,” Kobayashi said. “Also, it is easy to slip on after practice.”
Even though Crocs are a popular trend, not all of the students at Kalani follow it. Kaylen Delos Reyes Cablay (9) isn’t a fan.
“I don’t like the sense of style that it brings to the fashion industry,” Reyes Cablay said.
