A Bird Watcher’s Guide to Kalani
October 17, 2022
Two zebra doves (Geopelia striata). The species is among the most widespread non-native birds in Hawaii, thriving in human environments by being opportunistic feeders and breeders; it is almost disappointingly plentiful on campus. The body is rather plump but small, where feathers create the appearance of zebra-like stripes. Perhaps its most noteworthy attribute is its pleasant cooing, which is characteristic of many doves.
