As another school year begins Kalani welcomes a fresh set of teachers! Welcome Mr. Lee, Kalani’s newest Algebra 2 and Geometry teacher!
Lee graduated from Kamehameha Schools, then obtained his bachelor’s degree at University of Hawaii Manoa
A first year teacher straight out of college, he is excited to be teaching his favorite subject, math!
“I’ve always liked the idea of teaching,” Lee says.
Lee describes himself as an empathetic teacher who helps students connect the dots.
“In college I used to tutor and was a teacher assistant for a math course,” Lee says. “I love seeing people’s attitudes towards math change with the proper help.”
Students describe him as a very welcoming and caring teacher whose teaching style is to make sure they understand the material.
“He checks in with each of us to make sure we understand what’s going on,” Aubrey Leong (11) says. “He explains everything in two ways sort of; the basic way and then another way of simplifying it to make it easier to understand.”
But there’s more than just math to Mr. Lee, such as being a food enthusiast who enjoys going to different restaurants with friends.
“My favorite restaurant is Shokudo, a Japanese restaurant,” Lee says. “I also enjoy Japanese, Korean, and Hawaiian cuisine”
He also used to be an Apple store employee as a salesperson for a year and a half so if students have any tech problems or questions, they can stop by his room and he can help!
