For the senior class of 2024, college decisions are in the process of being made. The post-high school pathway these seniors plan to take may vary.
For pitcher/1st baseman, Cameron Kobayashi (12), post high school plans are looking bright and busy. Kobayashi is committed to play baseball for Hope International University. “I was interested in University of Hawaii at Hilo, Hawaii Pacific University, Chaminade University, and Hope International University. I wanted to experience living on my own to gain more independence which is why Hope International University was the perfect fit,” Kobayashi says.
Some go out of state while others plan to expand their horizons outside of the country. Alicia Tangonan (12), has always had her heart set on going to college in Japan. “Since I was small, I’ve always made it a goal to leave for college to explore my independence and make new connections,” Tangonan explains. Tangonan applied to University of Hawaii at Manoa, Temple University (Japan), and Sophia University (Japan). “With most of my family living in Japan, I’ve always considered going to college there,” Tangonan says. With the support from her mom and grandmother, Tangonan feels ambitious to see what’s out there for her.
College decisions can be hard to make. “You don’t have to know what you want to do right away, what school you attend does not define you or your future, it’s what you decide to do with it and what you learn from your experiences,” Tangonan explains. “My advice to those who are still in the college decision process is to be patient and take your time when making this type of big decision,” Kobayashi emphasizes.
With this in mind, good luck to all the seniors in the college decision process!
