From humbly serving tea to building a community, Tea Club has it all. Hosted on Tuesdays after school in the Culinary room, D13, Tea Club is a great place to relax after a stressful day of school.
Joining Tea Club is quick, easy, and absolutely free. As to why someone would join, let’s ask the current president of Tea Club, Maddison Hirata (12).
“We’re kind of an underground club; we’re not very known or not very popular, but it’s like a safe place, y’know?” Hirata says. “People can speak their thoughts, you can meet new people from all over and from every other grade, and we participate in events- we help fundraise. It’s how we build a sense of community.”
Tea Club provides students with the opportunity to make new friends and work on social skills without any pressure or obligation. This allows students to develop skills in working with others and also making connections with others on a personal level. Not to mention, Tea Club is one of the smaller, more relaxed clubs amongst the plethora of clubs at Kalani.
“People sit where they want to sit, they talk, they chat, they share snacks, and they share drinks; of course- our own tea that we have supplied and that’s basically it,” Hirata says. “We just chill, hang out ‘till about 3:00, and then everyone goes home, and we do it all again every week on Tuesday.”
If you’re looking for a place where you can be yourself, unwind, and have a nice, warm, cup of tea, Tea Club is a perfect fit for you! From time to time, Tea Club has collaborations with other clubs such as Japan Club and Tabletop Club. Tea Club has even got to host a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Center in 2023.
