As the OIA JV softball season approaches its final games, one name has become really big in East Oahu, Brooklyn Uegawachi. The two-way player for Kaiser High School’s junior varsity softball team is not just contributing, she’s dominating in a way that has her team undefeated.
In a recent game against Castle High School, Uegawachi started the game with a batting average of .500. That game, she had 4 plate appearances and got 3 hits, two being doubles, bumping her already impressive batting average to .625. She also pitched three innings allowing zero hits, striking out five. Her performance this season has been one of many key factors of the Cougar’s dominant season.
But Uegawachi’s amazing season doesn’t stop there. As a pitcher, she’s been phenomenal. With an ERA of 0.00 and zero runs allowed all season, she has not only shoved on the mound but has also shown amazing leadership on her team.
“Brooklyn is a natural leader,” Coach Brian Tsutsui says. “Her dedication to the game and her teammates is inspiring. She shows up every day ready to work hard, and that energy is contagious. It’s been amazing to watch her growth this season.”
As the undefeated JV Cougars get ready for the OIA JV Softball playoffs, Uegawachi is on her way to continue what she’s doing, both as a player and as a leader for the Kaiser Cougar’s Softball Program. And with Varsity Season coming around in the Spring, the Cougar’s are looking to do the same thing as the JV team.
