Video Production is a creative class that introduces students to the wonders of video creation. Students can expect to film, edit, and script short videos to understand the filmmaking process of the movie industry. This class can allow students to journey to the entertainment department and extend their creative minds.
“I chose to take this class because I enjoy a lot of on-camera and on-stage things such as musical theater, and I felt it would be a good idea to know other parts of the filmmaking process and entertainment industry,” Emma Tombaugh (9) explains.
Video Production also represents many of the theater themes within the class, letting students act in different narratives and scripted videos. This introduces the students to creative arts such as acting, which challenges many students because acting is something that not everyone enjoys or is even good at. This can unlock career opportunities for students in the future.
“It’s pretty skill-based because you need to know how to write a screenplay and operate a camera properly,” Akira Fong (10) states.” It made me see video production in a whole new light because I used to think that filming and editing videos were really easy.”
Scriptwriting, camera operation, and editing are also crucial elements of video production and to student success. Camera operation and script writing are beneficial because students have creative control over them. They can basically control any aspect of the project they want to create. I think this can also lead to many career opportunities in different fields, such as photography or writing.
“For any new people joining video production, don’t be afraid of the morning bulletin,” Fong says. If you mess up, just act like you didn’t and keep going. Confidence is key.”
Many students have to take on the morning bulletin, another video production subject. This project acts as a news anchor for the school, and students have to go live to share important information.
Overall, Video Production is a creative elective that shows students the different strains of video creation and broadens the horizons of many Kalani High School students for future occupations.
