Chong wins Silver at Scholastic Art Awards

Cindy Chong (10), holds her winning acrylic art piece, “Troublesome.” On Jan. 13, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards officially confirmed their judgement of submissions sent to them by high school students around Hawaii. “The artwork consists or is derived from emotions and feelings rather than meaning,” Chong says. “It captures the feeling of fear and warmth derived from death.”Chong took the silver prize and said she is “happy enough” but hungering for gold.“I’m having high hopes for next year since I won two gold awards last year,” Chong says. “I feel like I can do better.”(Elijah Le Blanc)
