Lucy Fagan is a student activist and sophomore at Kalani High School. She is a second-year news writing student and is focused on climate change and plastic waste. Her goal is to get a degree in environmental policy and help make a change in the world, but also values having fun and hanging out with friends.

Over 15 students from across the island showed up at Honolulu Hale on Nov.14 to support Bill 40. The students gathered hundreds of signatures from classmates to create the over 60-foot-long document they refer to as “The Scroll” and presented it at the hearing. Wilson Tran, a Junior at Kalani High School and head of Kalani’s Green Team believes the students' efforts were successful. “It was more than just that, and the poster exemplified this," he said. "It was a showing of powerful youth support and just how much influence people can have in large numbers. Kalani High School's Night Pep Rally sees the annual burning of the K on the school track. At the rally, held in the Kalani gym, each class performed a Homecoming dance. The dances were choreographed to songs from the musicals that assigned to each class. After the pep rally, students walked to the track to watch “The Burning of the K”. Drones become increasingly popular in the state of Hawaii as operation becomes easier and quality gets better. As we see them popping up more and more, regulations become more important to us. Hawaii must abide by all U.S drone laws. For example, drones may not fly above 400 feet, five miles from airports, and above state parks. In addition to these laws, all drones must be registered and labeled with the registration number. Hawaii does not have any specific rules. Photos by Lucy Fagan 2018.
